Nami Island Day Trip

Friday - today we travelled north on our INKAS bus for about an hour and a half, before arriving at a wharf on the Han River lake system. We caught the 10 minute ferry across the river, and then spent the day wandering around beautiful Nami Island.

The island is covered in beautiful tall trees, piles of pebbles, big grass and flower gardens, and countless types of birds and animals live there. The squirrels are so cute, I want to bring some home!
There are many activities to do on the island, a favorite one is to hire a bike - this one holds four - and ride around the beautiful surroundings and admire the view (oh sorry, that was for the other people that didn't have Brendan driving! We were holding on for dear life while he tried to outrun our other friends, and go over every bump and pothole he could. He thought four person bike equalled bumper cars!).

Anyway, we enjoyed lunch in the beautiful spring sunshine (the local speciality is bibimbap, but instead of rice they use barley and mountain herbs/vegetables - very tasty).
We also rode on a little train across the island (which is only 5km in length). The proceeds of most of the island go to benefit Unicef, so there is lots of information about the charity, and ecological issues, recycling and peace. A very pleasant place to be. The weather is lovely and sunny - tshirt weather!
After lunch we sat outside while the kids did a little craft class making little fabric owls to take home to remind them of their visit to this lovely place (we are thinking of you Diana!).

After the island we caught the ferry back across the river, and all had dinner together at restaurant on the water. Then it was back to Seoul with some very tired kids. The traffic back to Seoul was terrible, and the return trip took an extra hour. Luckily we have TV on the bus - so the kids were entertained watching the Disney channel. Home and bed by around 9.00pm.
